The Robe of Righteousness

For the past few weeks, my pet bunny rabbit has been shedding profusely. It actually has grown to be a nuisance actually. I had even researched if it was normal for him to shed that much. All websites I was led to spoke of the change in seasons and how that played a significant role in his “New Coat”of fur. I’m always observing my bunny, making sure I’m doing everything right, I’m always praying over him and anointing him (silly, maybe, or is it not?)

It only dawned on me that, Caramel, my bunny is an example that the Lord uses often to teach me. It’s so profound that the Lord uses him in my dreams to make sense of certain concepts, seasons or even situations for my comprehension.

So, I would like to present the concept of “The Robe of Righteousness” to you in the way the Almighty gave me.

So, Caramel, and most rabbits shed their fur through out the year, precisely every Three months. Then he’ll have a heavy molting season where he sheds most of his winter coat. There are a few conditions that affect the rate at which he sheds. There are also a few things that can aid the process. But towards the ending of winter, his winter coat will fully be grown and will no longer be needed for protection. Though, Caramel is a domesticated bunny, his biological process does not seize just because of his environment.(that will preach for itself, if you let it)

As I reread a familiar scripture in 2 Corinthians, you know the one about becoming a new creature in Christ, The Holy Spirit, who is remarkable at his job of interpreting scripture recalled to me Caramel’s molting process and how relative it is to the removal of our old nature when we come into our Christship.

II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

With Caramel’s molting process, I could see how it started from his head and face then made its way to the back towards his bottom and tail. He isn’t completely finished shedding his old coat, but he’s pretty close.

One of the ways in helping his process go smoothly is taking a bristled brush and grooming him. Another way is wetting the brush a little and then brushing back, removing any excess fur that comes off of him.

One way that can prolong his process is the temperature in his living environment. What is really warm and comfortable for me, may be uncomfortable for him. So I compromise for the sake of him.

The concept of “The Robe of Righteousness” is understood to be when symbolically we come to Christ and allow God to remove our Old man(the Old Adam,The Sinful being) only then can God put his “Robe of Righteousness” (The New Coat, the New Man, Jesus{The Redeemer}, on us. Not only does he change our heart, he gives us a new heart through Christ Jesus. Even if we tried to put our old coat on, we will find, that we outgrew it, it can no longer serve as it once did for us.

There is a second part to maintaining the “New Coat“. Though, we have “Become New“…. There is something we must do to continue to have a changed mindset and heart in Christ…

Do not be conformed to this world, but continuously be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God’s will is—what is proper, pleasing, and perfect Romans 12:2

The periodical process of Caramel’s shedding is equivalent to the continual process of renewing our minds. In order to continue to remain a “New Creature” we must continue to engage in the “Shedding/Molting” process.

For Caramel, it’s a process that cannot be avoided, for us, if we allow God to continue the good/Christ work in us, then we too will grow accustomed to the Shedding stages. That is the only way we can keep “The Robe of Righteousness“on. Now, In perspective, we are called Righteous by God because of Jesus who lives on the inside of us. But, we still have to choose to Live and Walk In “Right Standing“. (Mini teaching lesson)

On the outside, Caramel looks the same, But I know each time he sheds his old coat, his new one becomes fit for his environment and living conditions. He’s gone through this process ever since he’s been in my life, I really just never paid attention to it. That’s the beauty of the Revelation of this process at this moment of my life. Just as I overlooked my dear Caramel’s process, people will not notice at first, how you’ve become a “New Creature” in Christ, but, the more you “Renew your mind, Shed and Molt the “Old You” Christ will become your identity and He will begin to shine all over you. People will look at you and say things about you that you look different or seem different. It will be like a Gloss, or like you have gotten a “New Coat” and that is when you’ll really see that the “Old has passed away“.

So I urge you, if you want a new coat and would like to try the lifetime “Coat of Righteousness” on for size, it’s as simple as going to the Designer himself and He will get you Fitted. There are no strings attached except for the ones that he knit you with in His Love. And if you already have the “Coat of Righteousness” don’t set it down, it’ll be the talk of the town and the Designer will get much Praise, so wear it proudly and let its work speak for itself.
